If you have suffered a loss or damage to property in the London Riots or in fact from any of the riots which we have seen over the last few days it is important to note that under the Riot Damages Act 1886 claims must be submitted to the Local Police Authority within 14 days of the occurrence. For those unfortunate people who do not have London riots insurance they must submit their claim IN FULL within 14 days of the date of damage. Any claim made after this date will not be recognised by the Police Authority concerned.
It is hoped that the majority of people who have suffered losses in the London Riots and subsequent unrest round the country will have London riots insurance. For those prudent people who have London riots insurance, the situation is slightly different in that the London riots insurance provided concerned is allowed to recover the amount of the insurance claim paid under the Riot Damages Act 1886 from the Police Authority but in line with the requirements of the Act their claims must still be lodged IN FULL within the 14 day period. In order to enable the Insurer to recover their costs from the London riots insurance claim, it is essential that they receive the London riots insurance claim from the policyholder within 7 days of the event. Under the majority of policies this is a condition precedent to a claim being met.
Time is running out for anybody suffering losses in the London Riots and in other areas. Make sure that your London riots insurance claim is submitted quickly and clearly as soon as you can. Failure to do so will prejudice your position with the Insurer.
